Grampian Nurse Bank

Our Service

The NHS Grampian Nurse Bank Service provide registered and non-registered nursing and midwifery staff across Grampian to:

  • hospital wards
  • outpatient clinics
  • health centres
  • community settings

Bank nurses and midwives are employees of NHS Grampian who work on a flexible and as and when basis to cover for planned and unplanned shortfalls in the nurse staffing establishment, such as short and medium term absence and peak in activity.

What we do

Provide a booking, recruitment and management service for nursing and midwifery bank staff.  The service is primarily a telephone based service which provides a critical link between NHS bank workers and front line health care professionals commissioning staffing requests for their services to source bank shifts for registered and non-registered nursing and midwifery staff, which supports quality person-centred care.

Please check the NHS Grampian and NHS Scotland recruitment websites for an updated list of current staff vacancies.  Application forms can be downloaded from the SHOW website or by telephoning the Nurse Bank Office.

What is bank work?

Bank work is single or grouped shifts available for nursing and midwifery staff across NHS Grampian.  You offer the hours that you can work, taking into account factors such as childcare, transport, studies, other work commitments etc.  The Nurse Bank Co-ordinators will then do their best to allocate you to a ward/department based on your availability, work area preferences and skills.  Availability of work is not guaranteed, nor are you obliged to accept any work offered.

How do I apply to join the bank?
