NHS Grampian’s Orthoptic Service is split into two teams: Aberdeen City/Aberdeenshire and Moray. Although hospital based, the teams work in a variety of locations including nursery schools and health centres. The client group varies in age from very young infants to the elderly. We are responsible for delivering the Pre-school Orthoptic Vision Screening programme across the entire Grampian area. Our specialist areas include Low Vision Aid assessment, Stroke assessment and Visual Stress assessment as well as paediatric and adult orthoptics.

Practising Orthoptics requires a degree from a recognised institution. Training in Scotland is available from Glasgow Caledonian University. Please visit their website for more information on entry requirements.

NHS Grampian welcome enquiries from Orthoptists who have allowed their registration to lapse or have had a career break. We are happy to support you to regain registration through supervision and an assessment of your clinical competencies.
